December 6 Tasting Notes: Women and Wine and Design

Klaudia and Carri picked out some really special bottles of wine to enjoy and learn about for the last tasting of 2016. Everyone was in the holiday spirit which was heightened with a special give away of a magnum of Domaine Dupuy de Lome 2015 Rose. Rebecca Maloney of ARUP was the lucky winner of this special bottle and I can only hope she decides to share it with me.

Duval-Leroy Brut Champagne – This Champagne provides a perfect balance between finesse and power, it draws out flavours of dark chocolate, cinnamon and roasted yellow figs, expressing its subtle, melt-in-the-mouth vinosity.

Domaine Serge Laloue Sancerre – The basic Sancerre is from Sauvignon Blanc grown on clay and limestone soil with a little flint in the mix. It’s a classic Sancerre with bright yellow / green color, grapefruit and floral notes, a load of mineral from the soil and a long, zesty finish.

Truchard Pinot Noir – This wine is aged for 10 months in French oak (35% new) and bottled in August. This wine displays rich aromas of ripe plum, rhubarb, and wild strawberry while on the palate, bright flavors of cherry, pomegranate, cranberry and sweet vanilla are accompanied by a firm acidity and supple tannins followed by a lingering finish of spice and red fruit. It is ready for immediate drinking, but will evolve over the next 10-12 years.

Travaglini Gattinara – Deep ruby red color with garnet reflections. Aromas of red fruit, blackberry, plum and licorice with hints of vanilla and leather. Full-bodied, with intense flavors of cherry, raspberry and spice culminating in a long and smooth finish.

Thank you everyone for celebrating the 1 year anniversary of Women in Wine and Design. I am looking forward to all the wonderful wines we will try together in 2017.

Cheers! JB
